Job Summary

An entry-level role designed to train and develop a candidate into a skilled machinist focused on supporting the repair and rebuilding of industrial AC/DC motors. The ideal candidate will learn how to safely and accurately operate manual machining equipment and assist in producing precision components such as shafts, housings, end bells, and other motor parts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Technical or vocational training in machining or industrial maintenance (preferred but not required)
• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
• Basic understanding of shop math (fractions, decimals, measurements)

Special Skills

Basic mechanical aptitude. Ability to understand, perform and retain various job-related training and operations and safety procedures demonstrated by supervisor. Ability to work well with others in a team effort.

Physical Abilities

To be able to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

• Skilled, dexterous individual who can drill, cut and shape items both manually and with machine tools.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; talk and hear.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Clearly see 20+ feet with or without corrective lenses. Have ability for close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with setup and operation of manual lathes, mills, and other machining tools
• Measure and inspect motor components using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision tools
• Clean and prepare parts for machining or reassembly
• Perform basic repairs or fabrication under supervision (e.g., shaft journal repair, keyway cutting)
• Learn to read and interpret technical drawings and machining blueprints
• Support machinists with teardown and rebuilding of motor assemblies
• Support welding operations including setup and safe use of MIG, TIG, torch, and arc welders for fabrication and repair of motor components
• Clean, prep, and weld parts such as motor frames, end bells, brackets, and custom fixtures
• Measure and inspect motor components using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision tools
• Perform basic repairs or fabrication under supervision (e.g., shaft journal repair, keyway cutting, weld build-ups)
• Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, welding symbols, and machining blueprints
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Follow all safety protocols and company procedures
• Other shop-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor
