About the Role

Join us as a Board Member and help shape the future of space and science engagement in Northwest Arkansas and beyond! As part of our leadership team, you’ll guide strategic initiatives, support community outreach, and drive impactful decision-making that furthers our mission of inspiring curiosity and discovery. Board Members commit 2–5 hours per week to advancing our work through meetings, committee leadership, and community engagement. A modest annual financial contribution is expected of all members, reflecting our shared commitment to the organization’s sustainability. We are seeking dynamic leaders to help build and lead specific committees as we expand our reach and programs. Please note: per our bylaws, no more than three board members may reside outside the Northwest Arkansas region. What You’ll Do • Collaborate with fellow board members to establish, review, and guide strategic goals and initiatives. • Provide leadership and mentorship to strengthen our organizational capacity and volunteer network. • Serve as an ambassador for us—engaging with donors, community partners, and the public to promote our mission. • Chair or actively participate in one or more committees, helping to recruit and build out volunteer teams. • Support fundraising, donor relations, and sponsorship efforts in collaboration with the Development Committee. • Participate in marketing, outreach, and program planning to help bring science and space education to people of all ages. Committee Opportunities We are looking for Board Members to help lead one or more of the following committees: Donor Development • Cultivate relationships with existing and prospective donors. • Coordinate outreach and donor database management (Givebutter CRM). • Support grant writing, corporate sponsorships, and fundraising campaigns. • Work with Finance to track donations and allocate the fundraising budget. Marketing • Shape and execute overall marketing and communications strategy. • Manage event promotion, brand consistency, and community engagement. • Oversee volunteer-driven social media and content efforts. • Guide merchandise, branding, and marketing budget use. Building & Collections • Partner with Finance to track inventory, collections, and consumables. • Oversee telescope refurbishment, storage, and building development plans. • Maintain relationships with developers, builders, and real estate contacts. Programs • Design and manage educational and outreach programming. • Oversee community outreach events and revenue-generating programs. • Collaborate with Marketing to promote programs and with Volunteers to ensure event staffing. Essential Qualifications • Demonstrated leadership or professional experience in your field, with a passion for community impact and science education. • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and work effectively in a team environment. • Willingness to commit 2–5 hours per week to board meetings, committee participation, and community engagement. • Commitment to the organization’s mission and values, including a readiness to make a modest annual financial contribution in support. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in one or more of the following areas: nonprofit governance, fundraising, marketing, education, STEM outreach, or community development. • Background in program development, volunteer coordination, or event planning. • Existing connections within the Northwest Arkansas region or willingness to build local relationships Why You’ll Love It Here A vibrant, volunteer-powered nonprofit community driven by curiosity, collaboration, and discovery. As a Board Member, you’ll have the opportunity to: • Make a lasting impact on STEM education and community engagement. • Help shape the growth of a future science center in our region. • Work alongside passionate leaders, educators, and volunteers. • Develop your leadership skills while giving back to your community.
