New Edge Associates is collaborating with a reputable commercial banking partner that is currently hiring a Consumer Compliance Officer in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
The Consumer Compliance Officer will oversee and manage the regulatory compliance framework across the bank. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership; help shape compliance strategy and foster a strong culture of integrity and ethical conduct.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive compliance program, ensuring adherence to all federal and state banking regulations (e.g., BSA/AML, OFAC, GLBA, CFPB, FDIC, etc.).
- Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develop and implement corrective action plans to resolve issues.
- Provide regular compliance risk assessments and reports to executive leadership and the board, including updates on new or changing regulations.
- Draft, review, and maintain internal compliance policies, procedures, and controls. • Ensure policies are aligned with current regulatory expectations and best practices. • Monitor the implementation of new regulations and ensure necessary updates to internal documentation and procedures.
- Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, external auditors, and internal audit teams regarding compliance matters. • Coordinate and manage the preparation for regulatory exams and independent audits. • Oversee the resolution of any compliance-related findings or recommendations.
- Develop and oversee the compliance training program for all levels of staff, including executive leadership and the board.
- Oversee the monitoring of activities across the bank to ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and internal policies.
- Partner with department heads (Risk, Legal, Operations, Lending, etc.) to ensure integrated compliance efforts across all business lines.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in business, Law, Finance, or related field required.
- Advanced degree (e.g., JD, MBA, or Master’s in Compliance or Risk Management) preferred.
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in banking or financial services compliance.
- Proven track record in leading enterprise-level compliance functions.
- Strong understanding of consumer and commercial banking regulations, including BSA/AML, privacy, fair lending, UDAAP, and other key compliance areas.
- Exceptional leadership, judgment, and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and apply them to business operations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to present confidently to executive teams and board committees.
- Proficiency with compliance and risk management systems/software.
