Job Description

Director of Operations (Manufacturing)

College Station-Bryan, TX (Relocation Available)

A high-growth, privately held U.S. manufacturer is hiring a hands-on Director of Operations to lead day-to-day manufacturing performance, strengthen Lean/TPS execution, and help scale operations in the U.S. and globally. This is a high-impact leadership seat with real runway and a clear path to Sr. Executive level as the company expands.

Why This Role Matters

This isn’t a “keep the trains running” role. This is a chance to step into a key leadership position and help shape the next chapter of a business that is scaling fast.

You’ll be leading a technical, precision-driven operation where expectations are high, people are respected, and the shop floor is organized, clean, and built for performance. The leadership team values ownership, clarity, and leaders who can drive results without drama.

About the Company

This organization designs and manufactures high-precision engineered components used in demanding, mission-critical applications across industries such as aerospace, energy, and advanced materials. Known for innovation and technical excellence, they have an established international footprint and are actively expanding their operational capabilities both domestically and overseas.

They run an operation rooted in structure, standards, and accountability and they are hiring a leader who can take those strengths and elevate them even further.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

As Director of Operations, you’ll own performance across manufacturing functions while building scalable systems and developing leaders throughout the plant.

Core Focus Areas

  • Lead daily production across machining, molding, scheduling, engineering support, and related operations
  • Drive Lean / Toyota Production System (TPS) execution through:
    • Takt time
    • Standard work
    • Visual management
    • Kaizen
    • Continuous improvement culture-building
  • Own operational performance for a small and growing business
  • Improve productivity, quality, delivery, and bottom-line profitability
  • Evaluate team performance and partner with HR on leadership development, performance plans, and key hiring decisions
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and process qualification
  • Standardize operational practices across U.S. and international locations
  • Collaborate closely with quality, engineering, and supply chain to meet customer expectations and compliance standards
  • Build the leadership bench and scalable operating rhythm needed for expansion

What Success Looks Like

  • The plant runs with clear standards, measurable performance, and steady improvement
  • Lean tools aren’t “projects,” they’re how work gets done daily
  • Leaders at every level are developed, coached, and accountable
  • Margin improves, throughput increases, and operational execution becomes more consistent and scalable

What We’re Looking For

Ideal Background

  • 10+ years in progressive manufacturing leadership roles
  • Strong experience in engineered manufacturing environments (machining, molding, metals, testing, etc.)
  • Engineering degree required
  • Proven Lean/TPS success with measurable operational and cultural impact
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams (production, engineering, technical groups, etc.)
  • Comfortable owning both strategy and shop-floor execution
  • Ability to communicate clearly, give direct feedback, and build accountability without burning people out
  • Exposure to regulated manufacturing and/or international operations (examples: ITAR, AS9100 , similar)
