THOR Solutions, LLC is actively seeking a highly motivated Subject Matter Expert-level Marine Electrical Engineer to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)'s Ship Design Team in Washington, DC . An ideal candidate will have extensive prior experience with one of the following specialized Marine Electrical fields: electric propulsion, machinery control, power generation or distribution systems, as well as familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.

Typical Responsibilities:
    \n
  • Provide leadership and coordinate review efforts for verification and validation work related work efforts in the Electrical Engineering discipline.
  • \n
  • Review design review comments submitted by junior engineers and advise decisionmakers on considerations for high impact and critical design review decisions.
  • \n
  • Coordinate and lead review and adjudication of system design specifications, test requirements, Departures from Specification (DFS's), Request for Waiver (RFW), Engineering Changes (EC's).
  • \n
  • Lead effort to evaluate new or modified electronics on overall system performance.
  • \n
  • Provide mentorship to junior electrical engineers.
  • \n

Location : Hybrid. Primarily onsite at the USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC. Some limited "local remote" may be permitted.

Travel :Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.

Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

Typical Pay Range : The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location(s) is $120,000 - 150,000. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.

US Citizenship Required: Due to the requirements of the federal contract that this position supports, U.S. citizenship is required. Citizenship will be confirmed via I-9/E-Verify at the start of employment.

Security Clearance Eligibility Required :This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred); OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    \n
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • \n
  • At least fifteen (15) years of recent, relevant professional experience working in one of the following marine fields: electric propulsion, machinery control, power generation or distribution systems.
  • \n
  • At least one (1) year of experience related to U.S. Federal ship or boat building acquisition programs.
  • \n
  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. Navy Power Distribution Architecture.
  • \n
  • Extensive knowledge of USN, USCG, ABS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
  • \n
  • Proficient with common productivity software.
  • \n
  • Strong communications skills.
  • \n

Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    \n
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • \n
  • Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
  • \n
  • Experience leading electrical engineering work efforts for Government or commercial shipbuilding programs.
  • \n
  • Relevant certifications, such as:
      \n
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
    • \n
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
    • \n
    • DHS Systems Engineering certification.
    • \n
    • DHS Program Management certification.
    • \n
