As a Perennial Assistant Grower, you will play a key role in maintaining the health and appearance of perennial plants, supporting daily operations, and assisting in the development of team members. This position offers the opportunity to work hands-on with plant care, contribute to a collaborative team, and help ensure the success of the Nursery Department.

Responsibilities

• Lead, train, and assist crew members in completing daily routines and tasks according to established checklists and as assigned.
• Work closely with the Perennial Section Grower to ensure all tasks are completed accurately and on schedule, delegating responsibilities as needed.
• Serve as a point of contact and provide leadership in the absence of the Perennial Section Grower.
• Inspect all perennial houses and mats twice daily to monitor plant health and growing conditions.
• Check perennials for proper moisture levels and water as needed to maintain optimal plant health.
• Remove dead or unhealthy plant material from greenhouses, record and report disposals, and ensure proper composting procedures are followed.
• Monitor for signs of insect or disease issues, report observations, and assist with treatment as directed by the Department Manager.
• Ensure all potting tasks are completed correctly, including proper planting depth, fertilization, labeling, and placement.
• Verify that all salable plants are accurately tagged with the correct price, name, and code.
• Support the ongoing learning and development of team members in collaboration with the Section Grower.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall success of the Nursery Department.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Successful completion of on-the-job training.
• Previous nursery or horticultural experience preferred.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of perennials and proper maintenance and care techniques.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Familiarity with company products, services, and customer-related policies is a plus.
• Ability to stand, walk, stretch, bend, climb ladders, kneel, and pull for prolonged periods.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds as needed.
• Willingness to work weekends and holidays as required.
• Ability to perform repetitive movements over extended periods.
• Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work independently.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task effectively.
• Consistent and dependable attendance record.
• Ability to follow and help enforce company policies and procedures.
• Must be 17 years of age or older.
