Position Type: Support Staff Date Posted: 6/10/2025 Location: Lawrence Central High School Position Overview: The School Accompanist supports the vocal music program by providing high-quality piano accompaniment for choir rehearsals, performances, and events. The ideal candidate is a skilled pianist with the flexibility to support both in-school and after-school commitments, including the demands of competitive show choir season. Key Responsibilities: Provide piano accompaniment for daily choir rehearsals across multiple ensemble levels (e.g., beginning, intermediate, advanced, and show choir groups). Accompany soloists, small groups, and full ensembles during concerts, festivals, auditions, assessments, and other school-sanctioned performances. Attend and accompany all after-school rehearsals as scheduled, including tech weeks, dress rehearsals, and sectional work. Serve as accompanist during show choir season, including competitions, weekend travel (as needed), and choreography rehearsals. Collaborate closely with choral directors to understand rehearsal objectives, repertoire, and performance expectations. Work with Coordinator of Performing Arts to pllan tuning schedule for all major pianos in the performing arts department Assist with music preparation, including marking scores, providing tempo cues, etc. Support the musical aspects of any school musicals or interdisciplinary performing arts events as assigned. Required Qualifications: Proficiency in piano performance with strong sight-reading skills. Experience accompanying vocalists and large ensembles. Ability to adapt to a variety of musical styles (classical, contemporary, pop, musical theatre, etc.). Punctuality, professionalism, and strong communication skills.
