Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated and responsible School Bus Driver for Community Bus in Columbus, Ohio to ensure the safe and reliable transportation of students to and from school, field trips, and other school-related activities. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, punctual, and committed to providing a positive experience for students.

Key Responsibilities

Student Transportation & Safety:

  • Safely operate a school bus on assigned routes and adhere to scheduled pick-up and drop-off times.
  • Ensure the safety of all passengers, including assisting students with disabilities or special needs as required.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the bus is in good working condition.
  • Enforce bus safety rules and school district policies to maintain order on the bus.
  • Monitor traffic, road conditions, and weather to ensure a safe and efficient ride.
  • Communicate professionally with students, parents, and school staff as needed.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies or unexpected situations, including administering basic first aid if necessary.

Compliance & Maintenance:

  • Comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including school district guidelines.
  • Report mechanical issues, incidents, and accidents to the appropriate authorities immediately.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and inspections.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance and cleanliness to ensure a safe and pleasant environment.

Customer Service & Professionalism:

  • Interact respectfully and professionally with students, parents, staff, and community members.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students, demonstrating responsible and courteous behavior.
  • Ensure a welcoming and friendly atmosphere on the bus.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (or willingness to obtain).
  • Clean driving record with no major violations.
  • Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and physical examination per state and district requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students and adults.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws, safety regulations, and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in emergency situations.
  • Patience, reliability, and a commitment to student safety.
  • Prior experience in school bus driving or commercial driving is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to work early mornings, afternoons, and occasional evenings for special events.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with passengers of diverse backgrounds.
