Join Our Team as a Surgical Physician Assistant!

At Houston Methodist , we are on a mission to provide exceptional patient care, and we need a dedicated Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic team! In this role, you will be an essential part of our healthcare family, working under the supervision of licensed physicians to deliver diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical, and preventative care.

Your primary focus will be assisting physicians in the global management of patient care across all peri-operative settings. This means you’ll be involved in every step of the surgical process, ensuring unparalleled continuity of care for our patients. Whether in inpatient or outpatient settings, you will have the opportunity to work independently or as part of a collaborative treatment team.

Your Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Collaboration: Act as a clinical resource and patient advocate, participating in interdisciplinary rounds and fostering healthy relationships within the team.
  • Patient Care Coordination: Manage and coordinate patient care, ensuring timely responses to patient needs and emergencies.
  • Quality & Safety: Conduct comprehensive health assessments, develop care plans, and implement protocols to enhance patient safety.
  • Documentation & Financial Management: Maintain accurate medical records and contribute to departmental financial targets through efficient practices.
  • Growth & Innovation: Lead initiatives to improve patient care and departmental operations, while expanding your own knowledge and skills.

What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • One year of surgical experience

Licenses & Certifications (Required)

  • PA - Physician Assistant - State Licensure
  • Health Services PA-C - Physician Assistant (NCCPA)
  • DEA - Narcotics License (DEA)
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA)
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality care

Working Conditions

  • Minimum of 30% time in the OR
  • On-call responsibilities as required
  • Potential travel within and outside the Houston Metropolitan area
