Job Description Posted Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 4:00 PM Job Purpose The Part Time Theatre Technician is responsible for the operation, oversight, and maintenance of all audio-visual, lighting, rigging and shop equipment in the center’s theatre, music studio, dance studio, maker space, and other technical spaces. Additionally, the Theatre Technician will work closely with the Event Technology Manager and other Liliʻuokalani Center (LC) and Liliʻuokalani Trust (LT) teammates including but not limited to the IT department, operations, and ʻOlino Pathways teams to ensure high quality productions and overall maintenance of these state-of-the-art spaces. Lili’uokalani Center (LC) Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience and grounded in Hawaiian culture, the new LC will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT’s signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital supports and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy. Operate, maintain, and safeguard the technical assets of LC performance spaces and general technical elements, including lighting, sound, video, and makerspace shop tools. Maintains inventory and facilitates preventative maintenance on all equipment. Oversee training and support on technical operations for teammates and youth as pragmatically appropriate Prepares a variety of documents and reports (e.g. maintenance, budget, daily activity, daily program content, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information. Create scenic, lighting, audio, and video designs for internal productions Other duties Contribute to the success of the team by being flexible, collaborative, and proactive in learning new skills. Provide transportation support for staff, youth, and families as needed for official business. Participate in professional development, training, and team-building initiatives. Support broader Trust and LC efforts by contributing to cross-functional projects and new initiatives. Be available for flexible scheduling to support programming, events and strategic needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Other duties as assigned by Event Technology Manager or Director of Facilities Qualifications BA in related field preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent experience required Working knowledge of the following areas: audio recording and reinforcement (Avid, Pro Tools, Allen and Heath Digital Consoles, Martin Audio, and Lccoustics Audio), video production (Black Magic Control Systems and Broadcast Cameras), construction and set design, lighting design (ETC Dimming, Control and Instrumentation), stage rigging, stage and/or production management, clear understanding of professional standards and stage safety, clear understanding of commercial woodshop tools At least three years of experience in youth work Valid driver’s license, clean traffic abstract TB clearance Collaboration: Ability to interact effectively with youth, community partners, and multi-disciplinary teams. Knowledge of community resources and services Ethical Practice: Model the highest level of ethical behavior, integrity, and social responsibility Uphold and embody all LT values Communication: Clearly convey and receive information and ideas. Experience working with at-risk youth and ability to apply positive youth development principles to that work Relationship Management: Experience working with staff at all levels in a collaborative environment; ability to promote and sustain positive workplace values and relationships Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well under pressure and to remain calm and controlled when faced with challenging situations Travel Requirements In alignment with our organizational competencies of Alu Like I ka Hana (Teamwork) and Ho`omau ika `imi Na`auao(Continuous Learning and Improvement), this position will require occasional travel across the island, inter-island, and out-of-state depending on the needs of the team and the organization. While travel may not always be a need, the ability to travel when required remains a crucial aspect of this position.
